Deputy PM meets Sri Lanka President, Japan House Speaker

(VOVWORLD) -Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang on Friday met with President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan Hosoda Hiroyuki, as part of his working visit to Japan and attending the 28th International Conference on The Future of Asia.

Talking to the Sri Lankan leader, Mr. Quang reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of attaching importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Sri Lanka.

He suggested both countries promote partnerships in multiple aspects, trying to restore the growth momentum set in 2021, and soon to raise bilateral trade to 500 million USD.

President Wickremesinghe underlined support for further relations with Vietnam and economic ties with ASEAN. He expressed his wish to join in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

At the meeting with House Speaker of Japan, Deputy PM Quang asked Japan to enhance the two economies’ connectivity, help Vietnam effectively engage in new supply chains, and encourage small and medium sized enterprises of Japan to invest in and transfer technology to Vietnam.

Speaker Hosoda praised the important role and active contributions to Japan’s socioeconomic development by the nearly 500,000 Vietnamese people presently in Japan, adding that he hopes to see more Vietnamese coming to study and work in his country.

On the same day, Deputy PM Quang received three co-chairpersons of the Japan-Vietnam economic cooperation committee of the Japan Business Federation (KEIDANREN) in Tokyo.
