Deputy PM receives FIDE President

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has praised the World Chess Federation (FIDE) for its support to the development of chess, one of a few sports that make Vietnam known in the world.

At a meeting with President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov on Saturday, Mr. Dam said he hoped the FIDE would help Vietnam in training for chess players, referees, and organization of international chess tournaments. He asked the Vietnam Chess Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to work closely with the FIDE to further promote the sport in Vietnam.

FIDE President Ilyumzhinov praised the development of chess in Vietnam saying that many Vietnamese chess players have gained important achievements at regional and global tournaments. He promised to help Vietnam organize major chess tournaments in the future.
