Deputy PM urges Republic of Korea to work towards 100 billion USD bilateral trade

The Republic of Korean minister is on a two day official visit to Vietnam. Their discussion gave great importance to bilateral strategic cooperative partnership, especially as they are anticipating the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2022.

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh called for a resumption of visits of senior leaders while maintaining flexible dialogue. He asked the Korean government to create favorable conditions for Vietnam to export its agricultural products to the Republic of Korea and to add products to the value chain of Korean businesses to raising the two-way trade turnover to 100 billion USD from 70 billion USD last year.

Both sides agreed to encourage Korean businesses to invest and expand their investments in Vietnam, further non-refundable aid for Vietnam, support ODA infrastructure development projects in tackling climate change, and enhance healthcare cooperation, especially in medical equipment and pharmacy. They also reached a consensus to extend a Memorandum of Understanding on sending and receiving guest workers in the Republic of Korea in 2018 while paying more attention to supporting the overseas Vietnamese community there, including Vietnamese women married to Korean men.

Minister Kang welcomed Vietnam’s decision to resume commercial flights to the Republic of Korea and asked that both sides increase the number of flights in the coming time. She asked Vietnam to continue to allow Korean business people to enter Vietnam to boost economic cooperation, trade, and investment.

Regarding international and regional issues, both sides agreed to closely and effectively cooperate on multilateral mechanisms, welcome efforts to speed up dialogues and peacefully settle the DPRK nuclear issue, support the maintenance of peace, security, stability, and settlement of disputes in the East Sea in accordance with international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
