For each round, there were nine competing boats. The 12-person boats competed over a distance of 600m in professional and non-professional races.

In the non-professional mixed group of men and women, teams came from foreign embassies, companies, social organizations, districts, wards in Hà Nội. A Vietnam Airlines team 2 won the final contest.

Kellee Farmer of the US embassy team was thrilled to compete as she told VOV: “Very excited. It is my first opportunity to be in a dragon boat race. I know it is a great tradition here in Viet Nam. I am excited and a little bit nervous. But I absolutely plan to participate in the future. Next year we're gonna win. I have already shared my pictures of our training on Facebook. And my family back in the US is very interested in dragon boat races but they don’t know about it. So it is a great opportunity for me to introduce dragon boat races to my American family.”

In the non-professional men’s group, Ung Hoa District won the final, while Chuong My District won the women’s event. The second Hanoi Dragon Boat Racing Festival on the weekend attracted 700 rowers on 43 teams, including those from Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

The event was co-organized by Hanoi's People's Committee and national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
