Egypt begins national dialogue on transitional roadmap

(VOVworld) – Egypt’s state-run al-Ahram news agency has reported that interim president Adly Mansour began a national dialogue on Thursday on amending the transitional roadmap proposed by the army. Egyptians will vote on January 14th and 15th to adopt a new constitution drafted last year under the administration of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

The constitutional referendum is considered a significant step toward a democratic transition and will be followed by parliamentary and presidential elections next fall. The new constitution will enable authorities to change the date of the parliamentary election, expected to come prior to the presidential election. However, the president has not yet decided which election to hold first.

Thursday's meeting was attended by revolutionary youth movements, political parties, and constituencies.
