Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia talk about River Nile dam

(VOVworld) - Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan sat down Thursday for talks about Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam built in the upstream Nile River. The second round of talks sought consensus on inviting an international consultancy firm to study the impacts that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam may have on the downstream countries and establishing tripartite technical communication channels.

Egypt’s Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi said prior to the talks that the discussion must aim for a win-win scenario for all parties.

Ethiopian Water Minister Alemayehu Tegenu affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to working with Egypt and Sudan, saying Ethiopian foreign policy is based on “no significant harm and a win-win approach.” He told the meeting that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project will contribute to poverty reduction by providing clean energy to Ethiopia and the region.
