Hai Phong has over 2,000 fishing boats, on which 700 are for off-shore fishing. Upholding the EP’s recommendations, the city has enhanced monitoring of fishing activities and has seriously dealt with violators. People’s observance of the law has been strengthened while the operation of off-shore fishing boats has been closely managed.

Le Khac Nam, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City’s People’s Committee, said: “The municipal authority has offered favourable conditions for farmers to develop production in line with Vietnamese and international laws. We expect that the European Parliament (EP)’s Committee on Fisheries can see that Vietnam, and Hai Phong in particular, have exerted efforts to prevent, minimize, and stop IUU fishing in all our territories and develop a sustainable, responsible fishing industry in line with international regulations.”

The EP’s delegation visited Ngoc Hai port and a VietGap shrimp farm in Hai Phong.
