Belgium, which holds the rotating EU presidency, says it’s one of the most broadly approved packages by the EU so far. The package bans some 200 additional entities and individuals accused of involvement in the two-year conflict.

The sanctions will be formally approved on February 24, the date in 2022 when President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia’s current military operation in Ukraine.

Approved late last year,  the previous round of EU sanctions included a prohibition on importing diamonds and jewelry from Russia, imposed additional import and export bans on Russia, and closed sanctions circumvention loopholes. 140 more individuals and entities were subjected to asset freezes.
