EU leaders agree on Russian oil embargo

(VOVWORLD) - European Union leaders on Monday agreed to pursue a partial ban on Russian oil, paving the way for a sixth package of sanctions to punish Russia for its military operation in Ukaine, European Council President Charles Michel announced.

Michel said on Twitter that the arrangement covers more than two-thirds of oil imports from Russia, cutting a huge source of financing for Russia.

The EU also agreed on removing Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, from the SWIFT international payment system and banning three Russian state-owned broadcasters.
