China should further open its markets to European companies, said European Council President Charles Michel, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in a message sent to China’s top leader.

Merkel said, “EU-China cooperation should be based on win-win principles and fair competition. The EU and China have different social systems, but both are committed to multilateralism.”

The EU expressed its views on several hot issues, including the Uighur minority in Xinjiang and Hong Kong’s new security law.
