(VOVWORLD) - The UK must tell the EU what kind of post-Brexit relations it wants with the bloc, European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans said Monday.

He said it’s the UK that is leaving the EU, so they need to say precisely what they want before negotiations can start.
Timmermans rejected claims by British Finance Minister Philip Hammond that the EU is pushing a punitive deal for the UK for fear that other countries might leave.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned that Scotland might suffer an 8.5% hit to its economy if the UK leaves the EU with no trade deal. She called on the UK to stay in the EU’s single market, saying it’s the best choice for Scotland.
