De Gucht on Monday traveled to Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar to bolster the EU's trade links with ASEAN countries. During his four-day visit, the Commissioner will hold high level talks with his counterparts in each country. Hanoi is his first destination among ASEAN countries and his arrival in Hanoi will coincide with the start of the 7th round of negotiations for an EU-Vietnam free trade agreement (FTA). Both sides hope to conclude the talks soon, with enterprises expected to benefit the most from this agreement. If the agreement proves effective, it will create a huge growth potential for EU-Vietnam trade relations.
