Michel Barnier, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator said he would work “constructively” with Mr. Johnson to facilitate the ratification of the withdrawal agreement and achieve an orderly Brexit. He also recalled that the EU is ready to rework the agreed Declaration on a new partnership in line with European Council’s guidelines.

The next president of the EU commission, Ursula von der Leyen, congratulated Johnson, and said she is looking forward to having a good working relationship with him. She said they have the duty to deliver something which is good for people in Europe and in the UK.

Ireland’s Prime Minister Leo Varadkar welcomed the new UK’s Prime Minister, saying that he expects the new Prime Minister to make an early engagement on Brexit, Northern Ireland, and bilateral ties.
