Europe continues to be the hot spot of the COVID-19 epidemic

(VOVWORLD) - According to worldometers.info, as of Saturday morning, the world recorded 409 million cases of COVID-19 with 5.82 million fatalities.

In the past 24 hours, the world has 2.3 million new infections, of which Germany recorded the highest number, followed by Russia, Brazil, and the US. Europe continues to be the hot spot of the COVID-19 epidemic in the world, accounting for 50% of the new cases recorded daily globally. Compared to last week’s statistic, the new infections globally decreased, 40% in North America, 30% in Africa, 24% in South America, 13% in Oceania, and 8% in Asia.

The US has shipped nearly 1.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to 5 African countries including Mozambique, Zambia, Republic of Congo, Namibia and Eswatini. According to a US official, in addition to the $2 billion donated to the COVAX program, the US government has purchased 500 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to distribute throughout the year to the African Union and 92 low-income countries.
