(VOVWORLD) - Famed novelist Chiung Yao has passed away at the age of 86 on Wednesday at her home in Tamsui District, New Taipei City.
Emergency responders confirmed that Chiung Yao had no pulse or signs of breathing upon arrival.
According to news agency TVBS, the writer left a farewell note before passing away, sending shockwaves through the literary community and fans in China.
Chiung Yao, whose real name was Chen Zhe, was born in Chengdu, China, in 1938. A celebrated writer in Taiwan (China) and across Asia, she authored numerous popular novels and also achieved many successes as a screenwriter and film producer.
Her works include the wildly popular My Fair Princess (1998), which were later adapted into films and TV dramas, “Between The Water and Cloud”, “Plum Blossoms Branding”, “Romance in the Rain”, and “Clothing of Dreams”.
Chiung Yao’s novels are praised for their elegant prose, poetic imagery, and beautiful scenery, and to this day, remain unmatched.
