(VOVWORLD) - The Filipino public lambasted China last week over a friendship song released by the Chinese Embassy, which they regarded as propaganda for China's expansion in the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam), in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last Friday, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines posted a 4-minute music video onto its social media accounts using the Mandarin and Filipino languages to celebrate a “new era of partnership” between the countries.
With part of the lyrics stating “You and I are in the same sea”, the Filipino people believe China used this song, which it called a dedication to health workers from both countries, to integrate its territorial claim in the East Sea. The video features photos and statements from Philippine officials to make up a shameless propaganda song.
The video of the song, called “Iisang Dagat” (One Sea), has only 2,000 likes but more than 144,000 dislikes on Youtube. On Facebook, it has earned more than 335,000 views with 12,000 angry reactions.
The song was released just a day after the Philippines posted two diplomatic notes protesting China’s announcement to establish the so-called Xisha and Nansha districts in the East Sea, and its unlawful acts in regional waters.
