Foreign media impressed with Vietnamese football's enthusiasm
(VOVWORLD) - ASEAN Football published photos of Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh province last Saturday when it hosted two Group B football matches, and said “What an atmosphere! 30,000 fans in Thien Truong Stadium tonight!” This was a new SEA Games attendance record for a football match at a neutral venue.
The newspaper Thai Siam Sport wrote: “The first series of matches in the group stage of SEA Games men’s soccer went in spectacular fashion. Vietnamese football fans cheered loudly at Thien Truong Stadium.”
Malaysian media applauded: “It can be said that the Vietnamese fans have given Malaysia U23 strength and boosted Malaysia’s morale to advance to the next round.”

The Lao Football Federation’s official Facebook fan page posted a picture of Vietnamese fans cheering for the Lao U23s with the following caption: “Thanks to the Vietnamese fans who cheered us on ahead of the Singapore team.”
U23 Singapore, got excited when they played in the middle of a stadium full of spectators, which Singapore teams rarely experience when playing abroad on neutral pitches.
ASEAN fans also praised the exciting atmosphere at Thien Truong Stadium on the opening day of Group B. Facebook user Nat Nattapon said he hopes to see more audiences like this one at every game. No matter who they are cheering for, they create an exciting atmosphere.
Another user, Ravi Raman, said Vietnamese fans are ‘real football supporters’.
Although the Vietnamese team did not play, the stadium was full of spectators. Alex PM called Vietnam ‘the best host country of SEA Games ever’.
