Foreign media report on election of Vietnam’s new leadership

(VOVWORLD) - Many foreign media outlets reported Sunday on the election of Vietnam’s 13th Party Central Committee, Politburo, and Party Central Committee Secretariat.
Chinese news agency Xinhua said the election of the Vietnamese Communist Party’s new leadership took place at the first plenum of the new Party Central Committee on Sunday morning. The meeting elected the Party Central Committee’s Politburo, Secretariat, and the Inspection Commission along with its Chairman for the 13th tenure.

Japanese news agency Kyodo News underlined that the election result demonstrates the Party leadership’s success in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining economic growth last year.

Reuters in the UK highlighted Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s appeal for stronger Party discipline and commitment to fighting corruption.

France’s AFP news agency quoted Professor Carl Thayer, an expert on Vietnamese studies at Australia’s New South Wales University, as saying that he expects the Party to continue to crack down on corruption in its new tenure.

France24, Rappler, Channel News Asia, and the Guardian also covered the event.
