Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 13-15 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. Mr. Nghi was speaking at a press briefing on Thursday: “This is the first official visit of a Chinese senior leader to Vietnam since China introduced their new leadership. It is of great significance in consolidating political trust and the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. The Prime Ministers will exchange views and measures to deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas and discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.”

Mr. Nghi said Premier Li will hold talks with Vietnamese high-ranking leaders, meet with local businesses, attend a Vietnamese-Chinese youth exchange, and visit cultural and economic facilities in Hanoi.

At the press briefing, Mr. Nghi answered reporters’ question on Vietnam’s views over the US government shutdown from October 1. “Although the US government has closed down, cooperative activities between the two countries have continued normally. On October 1, the two countries conducted the 6th annual Political, Security, and Defense Dialogue. Diplomatic representative agencies of both countries are working normally. We expect this is a temporary situation, which will not affect bilateral relations, and the US government will resume work again soon.”
