G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting opens in India

(VOVWORLD) -The first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting on Friday. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Dr Shaktikanta Das co-chaired the meeting.

In his video message to the event, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is the first Minister-level dialogue under India’s G20 Presidency.

Highlighting the significance of India's G20 Presidency theme as "One Earth, One Family, One Future" to promote an inclusive vision, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need to strengthen multilateral development banks to meet the challenges facing the world, especially climate change and high debt levels.

He urged the G20 member participants to explore and harness the power of technology while developing standards to regulate its possible risk of destabilization and misuse in digital finance.

During the two-day meeting, G20 finance ministers and central bank governors will focus on a range of issues, including strengthening multilateral development banks to address common global challenges of the 21st century.
