G7 to donate 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses to the world

(VOVWORLD) -British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that the Group of Seven G7 agreed to donate 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses to poorer countries and help inoculate the world by the end of next year.

At the G7 Summit on Friday, Prime Minster Johnson said Britain would give at least 100 million surplus vaccines to the poorest nations within the next year, of which 5 million doses will be deployed in the next few weeks, and 25 million doses by the end of this year.

Earlier on the same day, the US announced that it would donate 500 million doses to 92 poor to low-middle income countries.

The European Union (EU) member countries agreed to donate at least 100 million doses of the vaccine by the end of this year, of which France and Germany alone will donate 30 million doses.
