(VOVWORLD) - A museum dedicated to General Nguyen Chi Thanh, an outstanding politician and talented military commander of Vietnam, opened to visitors on Thursday, his 56th death anniversary, July 6.

Located at 81 Tan Nhue street, Bac Tu Liem district in Hanoi, the museum was designed based on the model of the General's house at No.34 Ly Nam De street, where his family lived from 1958 to 1986.
Exhibits include 200 photos, 220 items and documents, six documentary films, 100 books, and 23 bronze casts, divided into thematic areas related to important milestones in General Thanh's revolutionary activities and the early days of the Vietnam People's Army.
Colonel Pham Van Phi, the museum’s Director, said covering an area of 500 square meters, General Nguyen Chi Thanh Museum includes an outdoor display area, exhibit room, conference room, movie room, and reading room.
“The project began in October 2021. The museum opened to the public on a trial basis from now until December this year. The official opening is scheduled for early 2024 on the occasion of the General Thanh’s 110th birthday, January 1,” said Phi.

General Nguyen Chi Thanh, whose real name was Nguyen Vinh, was born on January 1, 1914 in Quang Dien district, Thua Thien-Hue province.
He was promoted to the rank of General of the Vietnam People's Army in 1959. From 1965 to 1967, he was assigned to the South as the Politburo's representative in the South and political commissar of the South Liberation Army.
In 1967 just hours before his last trip to Saigon to prepare for the Mau Than 1968 general offensive, General Thanh died of a stroke.
