David Usupashvili, the 44- year- old Georgia Republican Party chairman and Georgian Dream coalition leader, became new Georgia’s new General Assembly Chairman on Sunday. This is the first time in 8 years of leadership that the Party of President Mikhail Saakashvili has fallen behind the opposition. The opinion pool at General Assembly Legislature includes 150 parliamentarians. However, most of the minority parliamentarians who belong to United National Movement (UNM) did not take part in the pool. Usupashvili gained 88 votes out of 129 parliamentarians who attended the vote. After winning the election, Usupashvili said that more contact strengthen with voters from parliamentarians is needed to understand people’s ideas and expectations as well as the country’s situation.
