Germany commits to support Vietnam in energy industry

During his reception to Minister Roesler on Tuesday, the Prime Minister pledged favorable conditions for German business operations in Vietnam, especially in manufacturing and infrastructure industries. He urged both sides to ensure the efficient operation of bilateral projects, including the metro lines in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam Germany University. He called for German support in Vietnam’s settlement of East Sea issues though peaceful negotiation and based on international laws. The German Minister said Germany supports Vietnam’s promotion of comprehensive cooperation with the European Union.
Minister Roesler pledged his support for Vietnam in its development of renewable energy and healthcare sectors. Speaking at a Vietnam-Germany Business Forum in Hanoi on Tuesday, Roesler said Germany considers Vietnam a strong ASEAN economy and values its recent development. On this occasion, Minister Roesler and Minister of Investment and Planning Bui Quang Vinh agreed on the establishing of a Public Private Partnership taskforce. Minister Roesler said that the EU will initiate its negotiation with Vietnam on a Free Trade Agreement, which reflects the grouping and Germany’s appraisal of Vietnam’s position in the ASEAN. Minister Vinh said Germany has been a major provider of ODA for Vietnam over the years, contributing a total of more than €1 billion to its socio-economic development projects. He called for more cooperation in the economic restructuring for sustainable growth and more competitiveness and productivity: “As a leading industrialized nation in Europe, Germany has a lot of clean technology and management skills to help Vietnam restructure its economy towards advanced, modern and environmentally friendly growth. This is feasible thanks to the strategic partnership we established last year.”
After the forum, both ministers witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and the German Schwäbisch Hall home savings and loan company, and a contract between the Vietnam Motor Industry Corporation and Siemens Vietnam Ltd. for manufacturing buses.
