Get-together marks joint Vietnam-Cambodia victory over genocidal regime

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City held a get-together on Friday to mark 43 years since the victory in the Southwestern border defense war and the joint victory on January 7, 1979 of Vietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal regime.

Delegates agreed that January 7, 1979 has gone down in history as a milestone of pure and faithful international solidarity and the special friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, helping bring Cambodia out of genocide and enter a new era of independence, freedom, and revival.

In 10 years from 1979, Vietnam had sent many experts and volunteers to Cambodia to help the country revive its economy and stabilize its social orders. Cambodian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sok Dareth expressed his profound gratitude for Vietnam's support for helping Cambodia escape from the genocidal regime.

"The Vietnamese Party, State and people always have deep affection for Cambodia and Cambodian people. Today's event in the new year of 2022 reaffirms that our bilateral long-lasting friendship and comprehensive cooperation will be forever protected for future consolidation and promotion,'" said Mr. Sok Dareth
