PM Chinh underlined internal difficulties in 2023 and outside factors that affected Vietnam’s economy, including inflation, high interest rates, the Russia-Ukraine and Gaza conflicts, and climate change.

However, the Prime Minister insisted that Vietnam still made some socio-economic recovery, ensured macro-economic stability, controlled inflation, promoted growth, maintained major economic balances, ensured social welfare, improved people’s living conditions, and reinforced public security and defense.

Achievements were made in external relations and international integration, and the reputation and position of the country and the public’s confidence in the Party and State were enhanced, Mr. Chinh noted.

He asked the conference forecast the situation in 2024 and propose key tasks in direction and management to promote growth, rein in inflation, maintain major economic balances, implement monetary and fiscal policies, optimize traditional growth drivers, and exploit new ones.

The PM urged the conference to recommend measures to create strategic breakthroughs, promote effective economic restructuring, and coordinate cultural and social development with economic development.

The conference will produce a report on Vietnam’s socio-economic status in 2023, and set orientations, tasks, and solutions for 2024.
