According to Dung, “The summit brought prestige to ASEAN and Vietnam in particular. This was a diplomatic success because it got more countries to support Vietnam’s stance on the East Sea. At the summit events and the meetings with China, Vietnam insisted that it will resolutely defend its sovereignty, territorial waters, and islands in line with international laws.”

Dung said content and licensing reviews will be made of publications referencing China’s U-shaped line map, as has recently been found in a number of imported movies, learning aids, and car tools.

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Cao Quoc Hung said Vietnam has taken steps to handle “origin frauds”.

“We have adopted measures to combat origin fraud and evasion violations.  The Ministry of Trade and Industry will continue to help enterprises in trade defence cases and whenever Vietnam’s products become subject to being investigated. We will work with other countries to learn who is subject to regulations on trade defence or trade defense mechanisms and inform domestic businesses,” said Hung.

Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung emphasized making a distinction between human trafficking, illegal migration, and the sending of Vietnamese guest workers abroad. He said sending guest workers abroad is governed by the Law on Vietnamese Guest Workers and agreements or memorandums of understanding signed with countries where Vietnamese workers go to work. State agencies ensure transparency and publicity regarding host nations, fees, wages, visas, social insurance, and citizen protection.

Minister Dung advised people who want to work overseas to use legal channels and not attempt illegal and perilous journeys.
