Mr. Phuc, who chaired a conference on regional growth on Monday in Dong Nai province, said: “Localities, agencies and investors are encouraged to propose solutions to bolster the regional economic engine. Measures should focus on investment policies and improving connectivity in the interest of logistical development and transportation infrastructure, as well as upgrading human resources.”
The southern key economic zone comprises Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, and Tien Giang. This zone accounts for nearly half of Vietnam's GDP.
The establishment of key economic zones was initiated in 1986 to create regional development triangles, particularly in socio-economic connectivity, Mr. Phuc said.
