(VOVWORLD) - The recent rise in H5N1 cases is “worrying”, said Dr. Sylvie Briand, WHO’s director of epidemic and pandemic preparedness and prevention.
The World Health Organization is reviewing its global risk assessment after an 11-year old girl in Cambodia died due to H5N1 on Wednesday, said Dr. Briand. The girl’s father, 49, also tested positive for the virus on Friday.
Dr. Briand said that the WHO takes the risk from this virus seriously and urges heightened vigilance from all countries.
The WHO is working with Cambodian authorities “to understand more about the outbreak,” she said.
