Addressing the ceremony, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi Nguyen Lan Huong said that 2020 is a difficult and challenging year for Hanoi and Vietnam because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Citing the motto “No poor people left behind,” Huong called for continued assistance for the municipal Fund for the Poor and other social welfare programmes.
She said, “There are many poor households and near-poor households whose houses need reconstruction and monthly subsidies. Many others wish to borrow money from banks to develop production. To achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and ensure social security, we need to pay attention to the city’s policies and secure the cooperation of agencies, businesses, officials, Party members, and people from all walks of life.”

In the first nine months of the year, the municipal Fund for the Poor raised 650,000 USD. Thanks to this resource, 400 Great Unity houses have been built, and thousands of poor households have received preferential loans and healthcare services.

At the ceremony, Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue presented aid packages to seven poor families.
