Ho Chi Minh City pilots bike sharing service

(VOVWORLD) - Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has agreed to pilot a bike sharing service called Mobike in several areas in the city center. The model will mobilize social resources to expand the public transportation network and restrict private cars in the inner city.

There are 43 bicycle parking locations such as Ham Nghi, Nguyen Hue, Vo Van Kiet, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Pham Hong Thai, Nguyen Thi Nghia, Pham Ngu Lao, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Duan, Ton Duc Thang, and Le Thanh Ton. Every station has 10-20 bicycles, each with smart lock and GPS navigation function.

Bike users will download the Mobike app on their mobile phones and search for the remaining stations nearby, then use the app to scan the code to unlock the bike.

To start using the service, users can recharge via bank account, credit card or direct deposit. In the short term, investors recommend different types of tickets from 5,000 VND (22 USD cents) for 30 minutes and 10,000 VND (43 US cents) for an hour.
