He made the remark on the sidelines of a recent workshop themed “President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam-Latin America relations” in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Mr. Castillo said that, during his 60-year revolutionary career, including 30 years abroad, President Ho Chi Minh was actively engaged in the world’s progressive movement. He was a founding member of the French Communist Party and later founded the Communist Party of Vietnam. The late Vietnamese leader creatively developed Marxism-Leninism both theoretically and practically.

His contributions to the fight against imperialism for national liberation, independence, freedom, democracy, and socialism were extremely significant. He was a critically important factor in building national solidarity – the centre of every revolutionary process, Mr. Castillo said.

In May, the administration of Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital, adopted a resolution establishing a Vietnamese space and a monument to President Ho Chi Minh on his 134th birthday. Mr. Castillo said he considers these symbols of solidarity between the two peoples as places honoring Uruguayan support for the Vietnamese people’s resistance war against the US.

The PCU Secretary General expressed his belief that with their long-standing solidarity, relations between Vietnam and Uruguay and the two Communist parties will develop and be consolidated in politics, trade, culture, and education.
