This was the highest ranking ever achieved by a player from Southeast Asia (SEA), and Hoang Nam now stands far higher than the region’s second-placed player Kasidit of Thailand who is 595th in the ATP world tennis rankings.

The list also sees the 25-year-old local tennis player become the first Vietnamese person to break into the top 300 best male tennis players in the world.

Nam recently won the championship title of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Men's World Tennis Tour M15 competition in Tay Ninh province. He put in an impressive performance by outclassing Wong Chak Lam Coleman of Hong Kong (China) in the semi-finals and Rai Ajeet of New Zealand in the final round.

August also saw him progress through to the final round of the ATP Challenger 50 tournament in Thailand. The player started the year in impressive form at the M15 tournaments in France and Thailand, achieving runners-up positions in both.
