Hungary, Croatia provide Vietnam with COVID-19 vaccine

(VOVWORLD) -The Hungarian Government on Tuesday transferred 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam under a non-profit mechanism.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao received the vaccine at a ceremony held in Budapest, on Tuesday. Deputy State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Istvan Joo said vaccine is an effective solution to control the COVID-19 pandemic and Hungary is ready to support Vietnam, Hungary's important partner in Asia.

Last month, Hungary provided Vietnam with 100,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses and 100,000 antigen test kits.

On Tuesday in Budapest, Ambassador Thao received 60,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine donated by the Croatian Government.

At the handover ceremony, Croatian Ambassador to Hungary Mladen Andrlic said Croatia values to the good traditional friendship with Vietnam and wishes to support Vietnam in early victory over the COVID-19 pandemic.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is set to send aircraft to bring the vaccine batch home on Wednesday, along with 12.5 tons of medical supplies worth 380,000 USD donated by Vietnamese-Hungarian entrepreneur Vu Quy Duong, who is also head of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary.
