IAEA concerned by apparent nuclear reactor restart in North Korea

(VOVWORLD) - North Korea appears to have restarted activities at its main plutonium-producing reactor in Yongbyon, the UN atomic agency IAEA said in its annual report.

The IAEA has not had access to that or any other nuclear facilities in North Korea since its inspectors were expelled in 2009.

The agency says it monitors nuclear activities there largely through satellite imagery.

Since early July, "there have been indications, including the discharge of cooling water, consistent with the operation of the reactor,” said the IAEA.
