(VOVworld) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is ready to act as mediator between the parties following the recent escalation of conflict in the zone of Nagorno-Karabakh, in the area between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The organization said they were ready to assist and support those affected by the recent escalation of fighting, as well as to act as a neutral intermediary between the parties. Patrick Vial, head of ICRC operations for the region, said the Red Cross was concerned about the impact on humanitarian activities caused by the eruption of conflict in the region. ICRC said the parties should respect international humanitarian law and ensure that civilian life and infrastructure was protected.
