IMF pledges to accompany Vietnam’s development

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday proposed that the IMF continue providing policy consultation to Vietnam economic management, fiscal and monetary tools, and financial-banking restructuring. 

During a meeting with Managing Director of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva at the expanded G7 Summit in Japan, PM Chinh informed the IMF of Vietnam’s success, stable financial market, and improved national brand. The value of Vietnam’s national brand recorded the fastest growth rate in the world in the past 3 years to 431 billion USD in 2022, and Vietnam jumped 12 places in the World Happiness Report 2023, he said.

Ms. Georgieva hailed Vietnam’s socio-econmic policy, saying that the government’s active, flexible, promt, and effective implementation of the monetary policy has helped Vietnam maintain growth rate despite numeous challenges.

As Vietnam's economic growth is forecast to double the global economic growth rate, the IMF wishes to continue to advise Vietnam on interest rates and monetary policy to improve Vietnam’s capacity to respond to crisis, she said. Ms. Georgieva affirmed that the IMF and herself will strongly accompany Vietnam in its development process.
