IMF upbeat about Vietnam’s economic prospects
(VOVWORLD) - The Director of the Asia and Pacific Department at the IMF, Changyong Rhee, has praised Vietnam’s positive economic prospects and its policy to reduce fiscal deficit.
Rhee told the Vietnam News Agency in an interview on the occasion of Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue’s visit to the US this week. He said that Vietnam’s economic growth rate in Q1 has surpassed the IMF forecast of 6.6% while inflation rate was under control at a relatively low level. The IMF attributed this to Vietnam’s efforts in corporate governance and equitization. Director Rhee said Vietnam is an important member of the IMF since its accession in 1956 and wished to support Vietnam’s projection to becoming a high-level income countries in decades to come.
