Increasing the authority of state agencies in meteorological management

(VOVworld) – National Assembly deputies debated the draft law on meteorology and agreed on the need to issue a law to replace the 1994 ordinance on the management, exploitation, and protection of meteorological facilities. The law, drafted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, is to meet the requirements of socio-economic development and cope with natural disasters and climate change. Deputies suggested that there should be criteria for accurate forecasts and punitive measures for inaccurate ones. They agreed on the need of preferential policies for the training of meteorological workers, particularly in remote areas. Hoang Thi To Nga, a deputy for Nam Dinh province, said: “The draft law should increase the responsibility and authority of state management agencies in meteorology. Agencies under the national meteorological forecasting center should issue their forecasts, which should then be given to media agencies for further communication.”

Deputies also heard a report on the proposed ratification and appointment of the Chief Judge of the People’s Supreme Court.
