Indonesia emphasizes maintaining stability, peace in East Sea

(VOVWORLD) - The Indonesian Foreign Minister on Thursday emphasized the importance of continuing to maintain stability and peace in the East Sea (internationally known as South China Sea) at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Retreat in Cambodia.

Minister Retno Marsudi's statement made it clear that it is important to finalize negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the East Sea, adding that the results must be substantive, consistent, and in line with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Marsudi also emphasized the importance of strengthening the various regional health structures which have been formed over the past two years to be ready to respond to future pandemics.
