Indonesia establishes ASEAN Special Envoy Office for Myanmar

(VOVWORLD) -Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said she would head an Indonesia-initiated office to promote the efforts of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in resolving the Myanmar issue.

Indonesia currently holds the rotating ASEAN Chair for 2023. As the head of the Special Envoy Office for Myanmar, Retno said it is important to facilitate a national dialogue, saying that Indonesia asks the ASEAN Secretary-General to approach all stakeholders and wants the Myanmar government to allow humanitarian assistance.

Foreign Minister Retno added ASEAN will continue to cooperate with the UN special envoy in resolving the Myanmar issue.
