Indonesia finds wreckage of missing plane

(VOVworld) – Villagers in eastern Indonesia’s Papua region say they have found the wreckage of a plane which went missing on Sunday with 54 people aboard.

Indonesian Transport Ministry officials said search and rescue teams are heading to the area. According to Indonesia’s state search and rescue agency, the ATR 42-300 plane operated by Trigana Air Service carrying 49 passengers and 5 crew members lost contact with air traffic control at around 3 p.m. local time on Sunday as it was traveling from the Sentani airport in Papua’s capital Jayapura to Oksibil, in a mountainous area south of the capital. The plane crashed into a mountain.
