International community joins efforts in fighting terrorism

(VOVworld) -  France and Belgium will continue to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism, especially in investigating the twin bomb blasts in Brussels on Tuesday and to prevent similar acts.

Belgium’s Prime Minister Charles Michel stressed that France and Belgium will unite in misery and determination. France Prime Minister Manuel Valls expressed his condolences towards the victims and their families. Among the victims, 14 French citizens were injured. He said Brussels was hit by terrorist attacks meant that the whole Europe was attacked, highlighting the importance to push forward a project on compulsory passenger registration.

Also on Wednesday, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called for more international cooperation in fighting terrorism after a series of attacks in Brussels. Steinmeier stressed the need for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and concerning nations in boosting intelligence exchange. Lavrov also agreed on the vital role of the OSCE in the fight against terrorism, calling European countries to break down barriers of ideology and geopolitics.

ASEAN Foreign Ministers condemned the attacks and showed condolences to the government, Belgium citizens and their families. In a statement Wednesday, the foreign ministers said ASEAN supported fully Belgian government’s efforts to get the situation back to normal as soon as possible and bringing the perpetrators to justice. The ministers reiterated their commitment to cooperating with the international community in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
