(VOVWORLD) - The 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) is an important legal instrument to regulate maritime issues and ensure legitimate rights and interests of countries, heard the 2ndASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) workshop on implementing UNCLOS in Hanoi.
During the two-day event, which concluded on Thursday, 100 officials and experts on maritime management from 20 ARF member countries discussed measures to increase the efficiency of the implementation of the UNCLOS and related international legal documents in addressing maritime challenges such as sovereignty disputes, delimitation of maritime boundaries, law enforcement at sea, maritime pollution, and climate change as well as terrorism and piracy.
EU Ambassador to Vietnam Giorgio Aliberti said that the EU will continue to support an ASEAN-led roadmap to ensure regional and international order and enhance multi-lateral cooperation in maritime issues.
A ceremony was held on Wednesday to mark the 25th anniversary of UNCLOS enforcement.
