International workshop on pangolin protection opens in Vietnam

(VOVworld)- Delegations from 29 countries from Africa, Asia and the US gathered in Da Nang city on Monday for an international workshop on pangolin protection.

They reviewed the situation of pangolin and discussed ways to protect the animal from illegal trafficking and hunting. The workshop was co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the US Embassy in Vietnam. In his address, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan said that Vietnam hopes to cooperate with other countries and international organizations to protect endangered animals: “I hope that we will agree a vision towards national strategies, policies, and mechanisms for regional and global cooperation as well as make stronger commitments on preventing illegal trafficking and protecting the pangolins”.

US Deputy Ambassador Claire Pierangelo said that the workshop is evidence of closer bilateral ties between Vietnam and the US in joining international efforts to prevent illegal trafficking of pangolins.
