Iran admits it cannot completely cut cooperation with the IAEA

(VOVWORLD) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday that Iran “cannot completely cut cooperation” with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as new fuel rods to be installed at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant in the coming weeks will require IAEA inspectors’ supervision.

The IAEA has not been able to carry out inspections in Iran since Israel and the US carried out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, despite IAEA chief Rafael Grossi stating that inspections are essential.

Last month, Iran’s parliament passed legislation suspending cooperation with the IAEA and stipulating that any future inspections will need to be green lit from Tehran’s Supreme National Security Council. After the law was passed, IAEA inspectors were immediately pulled from Iran.

Tehran accused the IAEA of failing to fulfill its responsibilities regarding the Israeli and US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
