Iran's ex-President Ahmadinejad to run again

(VOVWORLD) - Iran's former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has registered to run for president in the June 28 election, Iran's state television reported on Sunday.

Following his application, Ahmadinejad, known for his tough foreign policy views, said that all of Iran’s challenges will be resolved through the maximum mobilization of national strength.

Ahmadinejad previously served in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and held the presidency for two consecutive terms from 2005 to 2013.

On May 31, former Chairman of the Iranian National Assembly Ali Larijani also registered for the presidential race.

The official list of eligible candidates for the election will be unveiled on June 11. The campaign period will be June 12 to June 26. Election day is scheduled for June 28, and the announcement of the results will come a few days after the voting.
