The move poses an obstacle to negotiations between Tehran and world powers towards reaching a final deal ahead of the June 30th deadline.

Nejatollah Ebrahimian, a spokesperson for the council, told the media that the bill had been debated and adopted by a majority of council members.

Ebrahimian said the document was neither contradictory to religion nor the constitution.

According to the Iranian Constitution, the Guardian Council, a 12-member body consisting of six legal experts and six Islamic jurists, is tasked with vetting legislative and presidential candidates, supervising elections, and checking bills passed in the nation’s Majlis for conformity with Islamic principles.
