(VOVworld) – Iraqi troops backed by Shiite militias recaptured key parts of the northern refinery town of Beigi and some strategic places near Fallujah from the Islamic State on Sunday. At a press conference, Brigade General Saad Maan Ibrahim, spokesman of the Joint Operations Command said that Iraq’s military killed dozens of gunmen and forced IS militants out of refinery areas on the outskirts of Beigi. Retaking control of Beigi is important to the Iraqi army because the town is located on the route on which IS militants are advancing to attack Monsul, Iraq’s second largest city.
