(VOVworld) – The Islamic State (IS) has executed more than 3,000 people in Syria since it was established on June 29, 2014. According to statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 1,800 civilians were among victims. The Observatory said that IS has also executed 143 of its own members accused of spying and other crimes, many of them captured as they tried to escape the group. At least 8,000 IS members have been killed in combat or by US-led air strikes.
